Mom Guilt!!

Today Jake is 7 weeks.. Yesterday I would say was the first time I felt like a bad MOM.. Jacob cried pretty much all day and wouldn't sleep. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him and for the first time in 7 weeks I as so frustrated. When B got home I had to get out of the house for a little bit. I went to the store and even though I was only gone for 30 min I felt so much better when I came home. I think Jake is having a lot of tummy issues. I wish he could talk to me and tell me what the problem is. I am at the point where I think I am going to switch to formula just because he seems to always have a tummy ache.. I never understood Mom guilt until now.. I think that the minute he was born Mom guilt set in.

Did anyone catch Oprah yesterday? It was all about Motherhood and after the day I had yesterday that episode couldn't have come at a better time. Wow I am not alone.. Who would have thought.

On a happier note. Jacob is beautiful and I love him to pieces. He is eating between 2 and 3 ounces every to hours. He is smiling and cooing. I still haven't seen him laugh but a few of my family claim that he has. Until I see it it hasn't happened. He loves tummy time and looking out the window. Some pictures...

Kim--
You are a great MOM and I am sorry you have to go through this but once you have the tummy happy, you'll see such a difference. Brent has told me more than once that you are the best mom to Jacob! Hang in there and take as many breaks as you need and NEVER feel guilty.

Have you tried taking him in for zantac or anything. Sometimes acid reflux can be an issue in the beginning.

Ah, the infamous mommy guilt. It never goes away! I had that feeling just yesterday. Try not to be too hard on yourself and that was good that you left for a little while. It definitely helps to regroup and refresh ourselves.

I would try taking him...like Robyn said, he might have acid reflux. I have it right now, due to the pregnancy and if I couldn't complain with words, I would be upset too! :) hahah.

Kim, none of us can be good moms without a break every once in a while. Never feel guilty about spending time away for yourself. You have to or you'll go insane! Have you tried soy formula? It worked wonders for Bianca. Just beware that it makes poop an awful green color, so don't be scared!

Also, have you thought of maybe reflux? All 3 of my kids had it and it makes them miserable. Just a thought.

I feel like a crappy mom every day. The guilt doesn't go away but it does get easier to recognize that it's ok to not be perfect and know you need away time. Hang in there and good luck with the formula switch.

hi kim! in response to your sleeping questions, have you read babywise? I followed a schedule with the girls that promised to have them sleeping through the night by 6 weeks and it definitely worked. It's all about the schedule. I now have the girls on a nap schedule and have really eliminated 80% of their fussing and crying. The nap schedule is from the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." It's about how to recognize your child's tired cues and how much sleeping they should actually be doing. It's really good and BOTH books work if you stick to the schedules, which is hard when they cry. Let me know if you want any more information about either of them.

hey...just a tip on finding time to read the book: skip to the relevant parts. Each age (even by week in the early ages) is broken down. Just read what pertains to you and skim around looking for the good stuff that works for Jake's age.

Here are a couple big pages: pg 63 (cues that your baby is sleepy). Pg 195 starts months 1 thru 4. That's another good place to start!

Hi- I just commented on Lindsay's blog too about how helpful I also found "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" to be. My pediatrician recommended it to me when my son was about 3 or 4 months old. I wish I had had it from day one (and had at least read some of it before he was born!) The book is sort of oddly organized, but it offers great information about the sleep needs of babies and kids, and offers helpful ideas for recognizing your kid's tired signs and strategies for getting them to fall asleep on their own. Finding time to read the book...yeah, that's a tough one. Sometimes when I'd put my son down for a nap I'd just let him cry it out in his crib for awhile and I'd be speed reading through the book to come up with a solution! Good luck!
